“Where attention goes, energy flows.”
-James Redfield

In today's fast-paced world, focusing our attention on our well-being can be a challenge. We often find ourselves burning the candle at both ends, lacking clarity and direction, and feeling sick from the stress of it all.
Reiki, a form of energy healing, offers a powerful solution. And thanks to modern technology, you can now experience its benefits from the comfort of your home!
In this guide, we'll explore how virtual Reiki sessions work, the benefits, and how to make the most of your online healing experience.
First of all, what is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique.
The term Reiki comes from the Japanese words "rei," meaning universal, and "ki," meaning life energy. You may have heard “ki” or life force energy called “prana’’ in yoga and Ayurveda or “qi” in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Universal Life Force energy is the vital energy that runs through all living beings.
If you’re unsure what vital energy running through our bodies means, try squeezing your hands tightly into fists, tensing all the way up to your shoulders, neck, and jaw. Then slowly relax your fists and notice the sensation or energy flowing through your body. You might also have entered a room and noticed how the energy in the room felt without anyone even being in it. It’s a very subtle noticing.
Reiki is a gentle healing technique that promotes relaxation and supports the body's natural healing process. Trust that Reiki energy knows where to flow and you will receive exactly what you need during your session. Hands do not need to be placed on or over the body for Reiki energy healing to be effective.
How Do Virtual Reiki Sessions Work?
Virtual Reiki sessions are conducted over video calls, allowing you to receive healing energy without leaving your home.
Here’s how a typical session with me unfolds:
Preparation:
Before the session, find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed.
Your Space: Gather any items that will help you relax, such as a blanket, bolster, or pillow for under your knees, a journal, essential oils, a candle, or soothing music.
Clothing: Wear something comfortable to move, relax, and breathe in. Loose-fitting layers and socks are great if you tend to get chilly. Remove jewelry, belts, and watches.
Hydration: Arrive feeling nourished and hydrated so you can fully enjoy your session without feeling too full or hungry. Have water for during and after.
Intention: You may wish to set an intention, whether it’s releasing stress, gaining clarity, or simply being open to receive whatever is meant for your highest and greatest good.
Aftercare: Allow yourself some quiet time afterward to integrate. Journaling or drawing your reflections can be helpful.
During the Session:
Arrive 5 minutes early, so you have time to relax before we begin. Silence your phone before your session.
Connection: From the time you book the session, you have opened the doorway for Reiki to flow. During the video call, I will ask about your intention for the session and then may guide you through a brief relaxation exercise to help you feel more grounded and present.
Energy Healing: I may use a visualization meditation to welcome Reiki energy to flow freely through your body. Every person and every session is different. Just come open to whatever your mind, body, and soul are needing. You may feel warmth or temperature changes, tingling, or deep relaxation as the energy flows through your body. Many people fall asleep, but some may experience different visuals or sensations in their bodies. You may have different memories, thoughts, or emotions that arise. You are always in control of your experience and can bring yourself back to your breath and body at any time.
After the session: We will discuss your experience and any insights that arose. If you want a few moments to journal or integrate before sharing, just let me know.
Reflection: set aside quiet time to integrate the session. You might choose to journal, enjoy a silent cup of tea in a cozy space, go for a silent walk in nature, or move your body slowly and intentionally.
Dreams: You may notice that your dreams are more vivid. When you wake up, journal any insights that may have come to the surface.
Nourish Yourself: Be gentle with yourself in the next few days. Drink extra water. Consume foods, drinks, and information that feel nourishing to you. That looks different for everyone. You might choose to spend more time journaling, prepping healthy foods, enjoying nature, taking a salt bath, or creating a relaxing foot soak.
What are the Benefits of Virtual Reiki Sessions?
Virtual Reiki sessions offer numerous benefits, including:
Convenience: Enjoy healing energy from wherever you are without having to travel or sit in traffic. It's easier to fit into your busy schedule.
Comfort: Receive Reiki in a familiar, comfortable environment, which can enhance your relaxation and receptivity.
Accessibility: Access skilled practitioners regardless of your location, opening up a world of healing possibilities.
To maximize the benefits of your virtual Reiki session, consider these tips:
Set an Intention: Before the session, reflect on what you hope to achieve. Whether it's stress relief, emotional balance, more clarity around a specific situation, or physical healing, having a clear intention can enhance your experience.
Create a Sacred Space: Designate a quiet, comfortable area for your session where you won't be interrupted. Use calming elements like soft lighting, candles, or soothing sounds to create a comfortable atmosphere.
Stay Open and Receptive: Approach the session with an open mind and heart. Trust in the process and allow yourself to fully experience the healing energy.
Hydrate and Reflect: Before and after the session, drink plenty of water. Take a few moments to journal or meditate on any insights or sensations you experienced.
What Does the Research Say About Reiki?
While Reiki is a complementary therapy, growing scientific research supports its benefits.
“Meta-analyses and systematic reviews report that Reiki can improve psychological and physical health symptoms, including under randomized controlled conditions (eg, compared to sham-Reiki or standard-of-care), where Reiki has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, burnout, pain, and increase relaxation and well-being.”
